American Idol Season 10's 'Sweet~n~Sassy' Haley Reinhart performs “Rolling In the Deep” by Adele. The Top 7 were given 'Songs of the 21st Century' as tonight's theme. Haley thinks "this week's gonna be really cool." Producer Jimmy Iovine wants Haley to find the emotion of the song, saying, "I think Haley's found which sound works for her. She has to deliver magic when she hits the stage. If she goes right below magic, the audience seems to just reject her."
So, what do the other Idols think of Haley Reinhart? They all "whip out some growls," and Lauren Alaina calls her "Miss Sassafras."
Haley looks great tonight! She definitely found the emotion Jimmy was talking about...the rejection, the anger. Adele brings so much emotion to her songs, and Haley was able to match it. Amazing interpretation, with Haley's signature growls and then high runs. Wonderful ending. Haley's really been pulling out all the stops the last several weeks. This week, she kept the theatrics to a minimum and just concentrated on her singing. Haley's so much better when she's relaxed, and not acting a part. (Was anyone else wondering who the two people were sitting on the stage behind Haley and why they were there??)
Randy Jackson said, "What I'm looking for now, is not only who's going to win, but what direction you're going to go in as an artist, what kind of album are you going to make? I think you chose a perfect direction for you. I think Adele is an amazing artist, an amazing singer. And I think you have that amazing thing in you as a singer as well. I’m really happy that you chose that. There were a couple of times when you hit the falsetto in the chorus that went a little sharp. But other than that, I thought it was a great performance." Steven Tyler, a fan of Haley's since her very first audition, praised, "I thought it was a great performance as well. It as a little slow at the start, but you brought it up in the middle, and did what you do the best. There's a reason it's the number one album in America right now. They like that feeling, and you got that in your voice. I thought it was beautiful."
Jennifer Lopez added, "It takes a lot of guts to take on a record that everybody knows so well. And you have to sing it just as good, if not better than the singer. And, there were moments that you did, where you actually brought Haley to it, and we forgot about Adele. And that’s where I thought you really shined."
SUPER. LOVE. HALEY.
