Scotty McCreery: Profile on the American Idol Season 10 Top 6 Finalist

Over the past ten seasons, American Idol has produced some very talented country singers including Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Danny Gokey, Phil Stacey and Casey James, to name a few. This year's Top 6 finalist and North Caroline native Scotty McCreery is no exception.
One of McCreery's greatest musical influences is country star Josh Turner. Throughout the competition, he has gone on to perform Turner's "Your Man" twice, in his first audition, as well as the first solo round in Hollywood Week, which resonated well with American Idol judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.

The only time McCreery failed to impress the judges was when he had forgotten the words to Lee Ann Womack's classic "I Hope You Dance" in the second solo Hollywood round; however in the Hollywood's final round, he was able to win back the judges' love and respect as he gave an acoustic solo performance of Turner's debut smash hit "Long Black Train." Following his rendition, McCreery revealed that it's his personal favorite tune and informed Idol judge Jennifer Lopez that he is "one quarter Puerto Rican."

According to the March 7, 2011 MTV News article, by Kara Warner, McCreery revealed that he had met his idol, Josh Turner, at a meet-and-greet session, which ironically enough, took place on the same day that he auditioned for the show. He further revealed that Turner is "rooting for him" and that he is "proud of him." Lastly, in Warner's news piece, McCreery noted that he wishes to continue to stay true to his country music roots.

Other male country vocalists whose songs Scotty has done justice on the Idol stage include Garth Brooks' "The River," John Michael Montgomery's "Letters from Home," as well as two Travis Tritt songs namely "Can I Trust You With My Heart" and "Put Some Drive in Your Country."
