American Idol's Scotty McCreery Sings “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)”
Scotty McCreery, American Idol Season 10's consistently good Country Charmer, sang “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)”. Tonight's celebrity guest mentor was Lady Gaga, and the first theme of the night was "Songs that Inspire". "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" is a Country song composed by Alan Jackson. Written in the wake of the September 11 attacks and introduced at the Country Music Association's annual awards show on November 7, 2001, it reached the top of the Billboard Country Charts. Scotty choose "Where Were You" "because these lyrics mean so much to me as an American. But I think they also speak to everybody out there in the country. So for me to be able to get on that stage and connect to all those people at one time, it's just gonna be a great experience."
Scotty gets a sit down with Host Ryan Seacrest before his performance. If Scotty makes it to the Top 3, he'll "go home and kiss the grass." Scotty keeps the theatrics to a minimum, and simply sits on the stage with a guitar and a violinist, so just the lyrics come powerfully through. A bit of a mis-connect with this song though, as Scotty was only 7 when the Twin Towers fell. Lines like "And I remember this from when I was young," just didn't hold true. Since Scotty didn't have an emotional connection to the events of 9/11 (because he was just a child), the song didn't nearly have the emotional impact it does when Alan Jackson sings it. But the Idol audience seemed to love it. Randy Jackson praised, "That’s a great amazing song, Alan Jackson. It's a great lyric. All these songs are inspirational because they mean so much to you. Perfect song choice for where we are now as a country. I think those lyrics, "I'm jut a simple guy singing a simple song" - I hope that you keep that. I think that you've set your mark on this stage this season. You’re ready for super stardom, Dude, and I hope you make it. Very nice." Steven Tyler added, "Scotty, Man, that was beautiful. Saw you almost lose it in the middle because of your passion for what you were singing about. I see it in your eyes now. You keep that up. That was beautiful." Jennifer Lopez raved, "I’m in love with you. What you stand for. What you bring to your music. I can tell how much you think about it. You know who you are. You know what touches other people. It’s the mark of somebody who was really meant to do this. I’m glad that we’re here to witness it."

Country Western star Josh Turner surprises American Idol Season 10's Scotty McCreery on stage, during Scotty's hometown visit to Garner, NC. Scotty was in the middle of performing his theme song on Idol, "Your Man" (Baby lock them doors and turn the lights down low....), when Josh ambles onto the stage. Scotty turns around and practically runs into Josh, yelling, "Oh my God!" They go on to sing a duet of "Your Man".

American Idol Top 2 Finalists Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina's Funny, yet Pious, Extra Interview
American Idol Top 2 finalists Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina ~ The Prom King and Queen of Idol ~ talk to Extra following the Final 3 Showdown Results Show that placed them in the Season 10 Finale. These kids are very funny together and show off their great chemistry while being interviewed about how it feels to be in the Final 2. Anyone who has doubted the rumors of Scotty and Lauren dating only has to see the way Lauren looks at Scotty so adoringly. She's smitten! Scotty gives Lauren a few of those googly-eyed looks too, so if they're not dating yet - there's obviously a mutual crush happening - they'll start after the stress of the show ends. Religion, along with their Southern roots, is something that has brought these two young contestants closer. "We pray a lot together at the shows. That helps both of us," says Lauren. They tell each other, "Pray for me. Lord help us, Jesus." "He's the reason we're here," adds Scotty. "I have always loved Scotty because he knows that," says Lauren. "I always knew Scotty was going to be in the Top 2."
"Idol has gone minor-Country," jokes Scotty after the interviewer mentioned that neither Lauren nor Scotty were legal yet. "I have a feeling it's going to be a big Country finale, since we're both Country," giggles sweet, innocent Lauren.
Lauren says her Homecoming was the best day of her life. And Idol playing the footage of their hometown visits "reminded us it wasn't a dream," added Scotty.
The finalists talk about working with celebrity guest mentor Beyonce, saying, "She has a little bit of Country Soul in her."

For the first round of songs, the Final 2 choose their favorite song from all of their past Idol performances.
Once again, it was like being at a Scotty McCreery-headlining arena concert, not watching a reality TV show. "Scotty works the crowd in his typical fashion. What’s there to say? A solid performance from Scotty. If you liked this performance the first time he did it, you’ll love it the second time."

Lauren Alaina, American Idol Runner-Up, Says: 'I Knew Scotty Was Gonna Win'
Lauren Alaina may have lost American Idol Season 10 -- but she still feels like a winner after singing with Carrie Underwood.
"Carrie has been my Idol since she was on this show in Scotty's position," Alaina told reporters in the press room after Wednesday night's show in which Scotty McCreery was crowned the new Idol; a record 122 million votes were cast for the finale. Underwood won Season 5 of the Fox Television hit.
Performing with Underwood "was a dream come true," continued Alaina. "I love Carrie -- she is amazing, I got to sing with her that makes me feel pretty awesome."
What did Underwood whisper in her ear? "She said, 'Wow, that was incredible. We should take that on the road,'" Alaina said.
Now that the show is over -- but the tour has not yet begun -- what are Alaina's plans? "I get to sleep and eat unhealthy food," said the country singer, who dropped 20 pounds while competing. On second thought: "Actually, I'm not gonna do that."
Competing was an eye-opening experience with Alaina. "Every day I learned something new about myself. I learned that I cry a lot. I didn't cry tonight because I was happy," she said. "How could I be unhappy with second place? There's a million people out there that would love to be in my position and I'm blessed."
"Life is a journey and you have to go with each step, stumbles only makes you stronger. I feel like things happen for a reason and God has a plan for me and his plan was to give me second place," she added. (Not hurting the situation either? She'll get a Ford - as the company is a sponsor - as a prize as well. Her choice? "Maybe a GT.")
She had nothing bad to say about the judges, especially Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. "Steven was really nice to me," Alaina told reporters. Alaina also said earlier that night that she was sure McCreery would take the top prize.
"I knew Scotty was gonna win," she said. "I knew in my heart and I accepted it. ... I couldn't pick a more perfect person to get second place to. I know that's cheesy, but he's my best friend."

America Idol Winner Scotty McCreery Wants to Record Duets with Lauren Alaina
While many wonder “Are they or aren’t they?” regarding the romantic relationship status of Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina‘s personal relationship, it’s clear that the American Idol semi-finalists have a high professional regard for one another. McCreery has said he would love to have Alaina duet with him on his debut album.
“I said, look, we’ve been together since day one, and we’re still together,” McCreery told USA Today immediately after being declared the victor. “We met the first day in Hollywood, we’ve been good friends through it all, we’ve been classmates. I just said this ain’t the end and we’re gonna keep on working. We sound good together. It’d be nice to get some duets.” The pair has experience singing together, as they teamed up twice during their season.
McCreery also threw a shout out to the loyal, dedicated fans who followed and supported him on his journey. "Country music fans are great,” he said. “They’re loyal. I’ve got to thank them because they’re the reason I’m still here.”
Congrats again, Scotty! We are looking forward to seeing what you and Lauren Alaina have in store!

American Idol Season 10's 'Cute Country Couple' Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina perform "Up on the Roof" by Carole King, their third duet together, on the Top 6 Results Show. Host Ryan Seacrest teases them about being a couple. "How do you guys compliment each other," asks an off-screen interviewer to Lauren and Scotty. "He never gives me any compliments," says the ever-feisty Lauren.
Lauren sounds really pretty on the verses, and her huge vocals really overpower Scotty. When Scotty sang harmony, he went flat several times. Jennifer Lopez praised, "Lauren you sing your brains off. It’s a real talent to sing second voice behind somebody. You did a real good job Scotty."

Scotty McCreery sings ‘I Love You This Big’ on Regis and Kelly
Scotty McCreery‘s debut single ‘I Love You This Big’ is shaking out to be a big hit. The newly minted American Idol winner performed the song on ‘Live With Regis and Kelly.’ McCreery is making the rounds on the talk show circuit and the song is a perfect vehicle for his lower register voice, and the daytime crowd is eatin’ it up.
It’s refreshing to watch McCreery perform off the intense ‘Idol’ stage; he appears more relaxed and at ease, since he’s no longer singing in an uncomfortably high pressure situation and for America’s votes. McCreery can finally breathe, and his performances are better because of it.
During his interview segment with Reg and Kel, McCreery sported his signature, ear-to-ear grin. He spoke about pitching a complete game shut out with his baseball team and Kelly compared him to Zac Efron in ‘High School Musical’ asking the polite teenager if there is anything he’s not good at.
“Soccer. I tried out for my soccer team, and I got cut the first day. I think the coach felt bad for me, since all my buddies made the team, so I was the manager/assistant coach. If they didn’t call me ‘coach,’ they ran a lap,’” he joked.
McCreery, who also worked at the local supermarket before he made his way to ‘Idol’, revealed the cardinal rule of grocery bagging, which is put the colds with the colds, and Kelly Ripa certainly appreciated that.
McCreery also recalled his very first ‘Idol’ audition, where he was flanked by his family. He said he asked his father, ‘Dad, what am I doing here? I am in over my head.” Clearly, Scotty McCreery, you were right in your element and exactly where you need to be.
