They also saluted the brave first Responders who fought wild fires perilously close to the school a couple weeks earlier.

Priscilla Presley to Scotty McCreery: ‘Elvis Would’ve Loved You’
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Scotty McCreery has been given the seal of approval from The King.
As Scotty exclusively visited Access Hollywood on Thursday, the morning following his American Idol win, he revealed to Billy Bush that one of those closest to Elvis Presley gave him the biggest compliment of his life.
“The coolest thing anybody’s ever told me — Priscilla Presley was at the show two weeks ago, and she looked at me after we were done, and she said, ‘Elvis would’ve loved you,’” Scotty, who covered “Always On My Mind” during his “Idol” run said. “That is the coolest thing anybody’s ever told me ‘cause he was my idol growing up.”
Scotty will follow his “Idol” win with The American Idols Live Tour alongside his fellow Top 11 (the group was bumped up to include an extra person when Casey Abrams was saved on the edge of the Top 10 round), but the singer said he has some business to take care of at home – quitting his job at the grocery store.
“My manager called and said I haven’t turned in my two weeks notice yet, so I gotta give him a call,” Scotty said. “I’ve still got my apron in there whenever I need to push some carts…”
Scotty might still be pushing carts and performing Elvis songs for a group of friends if hadn’t been for one special person in his life, mom Judy.
“I wouldn’t have made it this far without her, I’ll tell you what. She’s been by my side since day one. She took one weekend off in the months we’ve been out here,” Scotty said. “She’s just been there for me… she was always there to help me out and I appreciate that more than you know.”

Scotty McCreery, American Idol Season 10's 'Country Cutie', croons “Always on My Mind” as his second song on the Top 5 'Now & Then' Show. "Always on My Mind" was originally recorded by Brenda Lee. Allmusic lists over 300 recorded releases of the song, in versions by dozens of performers. The most successful US version was performed by Willie Nelson. Successful covers in Europe were performed by Elvis Presley, and later Pet Shop Boys. At the 25th Grammy Awards held in 1983, the songwriters won Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Country Song; in addition, Willie Nelson's recording won for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
"Jimmy told me not to compete with the other contestants, and just stay true to me," says Scotty. With "Always on My Mind" Scotty stayed true to himself, giving a very solid performance. The arrangement was a little to slow and sleepy for me, compared to my favorite Elvis version with the pronounced heartbeat-like drumming. I did like Scotty's story-telling phrasing and emotional intensity...he really knows how to draw the audience in. The crowd gave a long, loud, sustained standing O for Scotty.
Jennifer Lopez, who loves the story-telling quality of Scotty's performances, said, "Between the last song and this one, you show us what a well-rounded artist you are. You can sing anything. You captivate the audience with your sweet voice. It's so beautiful. Nothing awkward about you up there. You're so comfortable in your own skin. A true performer."
Randy Jackson praised, "We call you our youngest veteran. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. You do what you love. You're a huge Country music fan and you do it so well. When you speak quietly, and do the simplest thing, it gets the loudest reaction. I'm happy to see you do the tender moments because we now see the kind of record you're going to make and the artist Scotty's going to be. I love it, Dude."
Steven Tyler raved, "Scotty, America loves your voice, Man. And you've just been takin' us up and down the trail. I love it. I think we're going to make it real hard for America to vote this year on American Idol because everybody's been so good tonight. I cannot pick that apart. That was a beautiful rendition of that song."

American Idol Season 10's Country Boy Scotty McCreery shakes it up with Elvis Presley's "That's All Right Mama". For the Top 9 Show, Idol contestants took on songs from the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. "That's All Right Mama" was the first single released by Elvis Presley. It was written and originally performed by Blues singer Arthur Crudup. Elvis' version was recorded on July 5th, 1954, and released on July 19th, 1954 with "Blue Moon of Kentucky" as the B-side. It is #112 on the 2004 Rolling Stone magazine list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". Elvis Presley has been inducted into four music halls of fame: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1986), the Country Music Hall of Fame (1998), the Gospel Music Hall of Fame (2001), and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame (2007).
The Top 9 American Idol contestants had the help of an all-star cast of celebrity mentors for 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame' Week. These included Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, who helped the Idol contestants with their song choices and gave production/arrangement advice along with Jimmy Iovine, and No Doubt's Gwen Stefani who acted as wardrobe stylist to the Idols with clothes from her L.A.M.B. line.
Scotty choose "That's All Right Mama" "by the King of Rock-n-Roll, Elvis Presley. As a kid, I was a huge Elvis fan, so it seemed very fitting to sing Elvis this week," says Scotty. (Above photo ~ Scotty impersonating Elvis at a very young age!) Scotty mixed it up a bit, giving "It's All Right Mama" an 'edge', a Rock feel. It's still unbelievable that Scotty is only 16! He has such amazing stage presence, swagger and charisma on stage, he's like a seasoned professional! The crowd went wild for Scotty's performance. Another winner! Scotty has shown once again why he's the front-runner and favorite to win. Randy Jackson yelled, "Scotty is in it to win it, y'all! Anybody who thought you were a one trick pony, that all you did was the Country thing, you can perform. This was amazing. You were having fun. This was like a new Scotty. We've never seen this side. Scotty's in it to win it! Who's gonna beat him?" Steven Tyler got all eccentric on us again, saying, "I thought you were all hat and no cattle, but you brought Elvis into the house. You did it well."
