American Idol Final 2 Hopeful Lauren Alaina Singing “Flat on the Floor” at the Finale
Lauren Alaina ~ the last female contestant standing ~ gives an amazing, passionate performance of Carrie Underwood's "Flat on the Floor" as her first song on the American Idol Season 10 Finale.
For the first round of songs, the Final 2 choose their favorite song from all of their past Idol performances.
Lauren had a medical scare earlier in the day when she blew out one of her vocal chords. After being seen by a doctor, and given medication, Lauren was given the okay to perform. Lauren hits the stage, strutting her stuff! She seems hugely confident tonight, like she's finally gotten over that last little bit of nervousness and insecurity she's been holding on to. Bravo!! Lauren's vocals in her higher register are definitely ragged, but she has such big, huge vocals to begin with, that she still gives a stellar performance. The judges give her a standing ovation.

Lauren Alaina, American Idol Runner-Up, Says: 'I Knew Scotty Was Gonna Win'
Lauren Alaina may have lost American Idol Season 10 -- but she still feels like a winner after singing with Carrie Underwood.
"Carrie has been my Idol since she was on this show in Scotty's position," Alaina told reporters in the press room after Wednesday night's show in which Scotty McCreery was crowned the new Idol; a record 122 million votes were cast for the finale. Underwood won Season 5 of the Fox Television hit.
Performing with Underwood "was a dream come true," continued Alaina. "I love Carrie -- she is amazing, I got to sing with her that makes me feel pretty awesome."
What did Underwood whisper in her ear? "She said, 'Wow, that was incredible. We should take that on the road,'" Alaina said.
Now that the show is over -- but the tour has not yet begun -- what are Alaina's plans? "I get to sleep and eat unhealthy food," said the country singer, who dropped 20 pounds while competing. On second thought: "Actually, I'm not gonna do that."
Competing was an eye-opening experience with Alaina. "Every day I learned something new about myself. I learned that I cry a lot. I didn't cry tonight because I was happy," she said. "How could I be unhappy with second place? There's a million people out there that would love to be in my position and I'm blessed."
"Life is a journey and you have to go with each step, stumbles only makes you stronger. I feel like things happen for a reason and God has a plan for me and his plan was to give me second place," she added. (Not hurting the situation either? She'll get a Ford - as the company is a sponsor - as a prize as well. Her choice? "Maybe a GT.")
She had nothing bad to say about the judges, especially Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. "Steven was really nice to me," Alaina told reporters. Alaina also said earlier that night that she was sure McCreery would take the top prize.
"I knew Scotty was gonna win," she said. "I knew in my heart and I accepted it. ... I couldn't pick a more perfect person to get second place to. I know that's cheesy, but he's my best friend."

Lauren Alaina Feels the Love From Carrie Underwood & Learned the Most from Miley Cyrus
American Idol runner-up Lauren Alain just landed a major-label deal with Mercury Records, and scored more than 124,000 downloads with her debut single, 'Like My Mother Does,' in its first week of release. But perhaps her most memorable moment recently came in the form of a gift from former 'Idol' winner -- and country music superstar --
"She got me this necklace from Tiffany's that says my name on it and then 'Love C.U.' on the back," Lauren reveals (quote via Lancaster, Pa. radio station WIOV.) "I want to get her some dog clothes [in return]."
Lauren and Carrie performed during the AI finale, where the latter gave the 16-year-old her cell phone number, in case she needs any help or support during her time in Nashville. But it was another guest on the show from whom Lauren says she learned the most -- pop star and actress Miley Cyrus. "She is young and relatable," explains the Georgia native. "She started out on a TV show and she was my age, and she said that she had been through a lot of the same things, like the insecurities that I was having."
The budding young star, who learned via Twitter that first-season winner Kelly Clarkson was pulling for her, shocked millions of viewers when she famously kissed this year's champ, Scotty McCreery, during the final episode. But in spite of rumors of a budding romance, the precocious teen says there is someone else she is quietly pursuing.
"Actually, I like somebody right now, but I can't really have a boyfriend. It's like, impossible," she acknowledges. "[Scotty and I are] both young and we went through this journey together ... But we were so busy learning stuff about ourselves, we weren't really having time to do any of that kinda stuff!"
Romance or not, the two young stars will be spending plenty of time together in the next few months. They head to Nashville next week, where they'll both participate in the City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge, as well as make an appearance during Country Music Association (CMA) Music Fest. Lauren is also hard at work on her debut album, which she hopes to release later this year.

Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina to perform at Opry during the CMA Music Festival
American Idol winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina will make their Grand Ole Opry debuts less than two weeks after this season’s Idol finale. Among others on the Opry that night are Billy Ray Cyrus and Randy Travis, who will be signing copies of his CD “25th Anniversary Celebration” in The Opry Shop before the show. Tickets are still available.
Country music’s most famous show is jamming during one of country music’s most exciting weeks, as the Grand Ole Opry presented by Humana is hosting five star-packed Opry shows, a free Music Fest kick-off Opry Plaza Party, benefit guitar auction, popular artist signings, and more during CMA Music Festival week June 7 – 12.

On Thursday night, Ryan Seacrest announced to American Idol viewers that 95 million votes came in, setting a record for the most votes of any season. As the show began, the three remaining contestants knew this was it. Everything they had worked for all came down to this day. One final contestant would sing a goodbye song and the stage would be set. And as fate - or votes - would have it, that is exactly what played out. When Scotty's name was called, he seemed genuinely relieved, excited and dumbfounded all at once. He took his seat off to the side while he awaited the moment that would reveal whom his finale competitor would be.
After the usual build up of suspense, Ryan Seacrest announced that Lauren Alaina would join Scotty in the finale next week, in that one moment, making American Idol history. In 9 years of American Idol, we've had Rockers, R&B singers, Pop Stars and contestants with enough screech to keep even the Metal-hungry happy, but never before have two Country artists faced off on the American Idol finale stage. Lauren Alaina, American Idol Season 10's sweet (and funny) Georgia Peach, sings “Flat on the Floor” by Carrie Underwood as her first song on the Top 5 'Now~and~Then' Show. Sheryl Crow sat in as guest celebrity mentor. "One of the things I think would be really helpful for Lauren, is to stay put. To bring the audience to her," says Sheryl, who wants Lauren to "stand in a very strong position and sing." "I'm proud of Lauren. She's taken all the constructive criticism in, and she's used it as fuel. And she's coming to fight tonight," says Producer Jimmy Iovine.
Lauren hits the stage...looking great! She's really maturing as an artist (her singing), and as a performer (her 'look', her confidence, and her command of the stage and her movements.) She's right, this is a very hard song to sing. And she pulls it off ~ brilliantly! One of Lauren's best performances to date. Spunky, sassy. Judy and Mike McCreery have recounted their son's spot-on childhood Elvis impersonations, including one Halloween when he politely responded to candy handouts. "Thank you. Thank you very much," the boy quipped.
The clean-scrubbed teen says he dreams of one day performing at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry, and he probably will, especially as his new agent is on the ball.
Intriguingly, he admits he still listens to The Jackson 5. However, McCreery says his favorites include Reba McEntire, George Strait and previous "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood.

Lauren Alaina Suddeth auditioned for Season 10 in Nashville, singing's "Like We Never Loved at All." The 16-year-old country singer with the long two-toned locks won hearts with her story of her cousin's inspiring battle against brain cancer, and the judges invited her family into the audition room.
Alaina followed up with an impromptu duet of "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" with "Idol" judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, and the judges quickly labeled her the best they had seen in Nashville.
"I think we found the one today," Tyler said afterward. "We found her. Oh, yeah, we did."
Randy Jackson compared Alaina to two previous "Idol" winners, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
A down-homer with heart
Hailing from Rosswell, Georgia, Alaina nicknamed fellow Georgian and "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest a Georgia peach. Tweeting about her personal pratfalls and troubles with cell phones and other technology, the down-to-earth Alaina has attracted a loyal fan base.
"I'm original and unique, and I can just belt it out whenever someone needs me to," Alaina posted on her own website.
Alaina's hometown friends and fans organized fund raisers to send her cousin Holly Witherow and her aunt Kim Witherow to the Top 11 audition night of "Idol," where Alaina offered her countrified rendition of The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On."
Her country roots run deep. Born November 8, 1994, in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, Alaina began singing as a toddler and never stopped. She credits her cousin Holly as both a big sister figure and a musical inspiration.
Alaina is a sophomore at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School. Before joining "Idol," she worked in a local pizza parlor and sang at local gatherings. She has hinted that she has had a boyfriend cheering her on in her "Idol" journey.

Alaina has claimed to own an unusually diverse collection of albums, including Justin Bieber and Miranda Lambert. Alaina points to "Idol" champ and country star Carrie Underwood as a major personal musical influence and fondly recalls seeing Sugarland live in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as her first real concert.
With no formal singing training, Alaina performs with a powerful punch and a country flavor. She has admitted that she dreams of performing at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry someday,

Prior to American Idol, Alaina performed at several Chattanooga area venues and was the first winner of the WinnieStar youth talent contest at Lake Winnepesaukah amusement park in 2009.
