American Idol Scotty McCreery sings "This Big" at Disney World
What a week it’s been for Scotty McCreery. One night he is having his name announced as the newest “American Idol” to an estimated 29.3 million viewers by Ryan Seacrest on the hit television show, and a few days later he is at Walt Disney World riding in a gala parade with Mickey Mouse by his side.
The humble and personable 17-year-old country crooner from Garner, N.C., was the star May 30 in a morning parade through Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Riding next to Mickey (who knows a few things about celebratory parades himself), Scotty waved to the thousands of fans gathered along Hollywood Blvd. In front of “The American Idol Experience” attraction, Scotty thanked the fans for their dedication and support. He then treated the crowd to a live performance of “I Love You This Big,” his new hit single, and later made a surprise, walk-on appearance inside “The American Idol Experience.”

On Thursday night, Ryan Seacrest announced to American Idol viewers that 95 million votes came in, setting a record for the most votes of any season. However, getting the most votes was not the only Idol "first" achieved this week. The Top 2 finalists also made American Idol history, not just once, but twice over.
As the show began, the three remaining contestants knew this was it. Everything they had worked for all came down to this day. One final contestant would sing a goodbye song and the stage would be set. The remaining two would find themselves on the biggest stage yet, singing their hearts out for their families, their friends, the thousands of fans who turned out for their homecoming visits and the countless others who faithfully voted each week. But first, they had to get through an hour long show, wrought with the by now expected commercial breaks before Ryan Seacrest would announce the winners.
If anyone thought Scotty McCreery would make it into the finale, they could probably predict that the American Idol producers would have his name called first, leaving the girls, Haley Reinhart and Lauren Alaina pitted against each other as the cliffhanger moment. And as fate - or votes - would have it, that is exactly what played out. When Scotty's name was called, he seemed genuinely relieved, excited and dumbfounded all at once. He took his seat off to the side while he awaited the moment that would reveal whom his finale competitor would be.
After the usual build up of suspense, Ryan Seacrest announced that Lauren Alaina would join Scotty in the finale next week, in that one moment, making American Idol history. In 9 years of American Idol, we've had Rockers, R&B singers, Pop Stars and contestants with enough screech to keep even the Metal-hungry happy, but never before have two Country artists faced off on the American Idol finale stage. If that wasn't enough to get Country fans tuning in to the finale next week, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina made yet another mark in history, one that may lure in teen voters by the masses. Season 10's Top 2 contestants are also the youngest pair of finalists to ever compete for the title. Scotty McCreery is 17 years old while Lauren Alaina is just 16.
So, after months of grueling schedules, hard work and life-changing experiences, it all comes down to two teenagers trying to absorb all that has happened to them and keep their composure for one more week. American Idol's James Durbin Brings Down the House with “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” on the Top 6 Show!
James Durbin, American Idol Season 10's 'Metal Head', brought down the house, again, singing “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”. "The Music of Carole King" was the theme for the Top 6 Week. James is doing a love song, dedicated to the mother of his son Hunter, and fiance, Heidi. "I think it's about time," says James, "No marching band, no flaming piano. I believe I can put on just as big as a show just by being myself." Gotta love this guy's confidence, on-stage bravado and passion! Babyface, the R&B and Pop record producer, musician, singer and songwriter, praised, "James came in and played the song, straight down (i.e. almost acapella), and I was blown away."
This is huge praise indeed, coming from the genius Producer who received three consecutive Grammy Awards for Producer of the Year and who has produced and written music for Céline Dion, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, Madonna, Prince, Beyoncé, Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Janet Jackson, Michael Bolton, Paula Abdul, Dru Hill, Fall Out Boy, Eric Clapton, Lil Wayne, Pink, TLC, and Phil Collins among many others. "Carole King and James Durbin were made to come together. James Durbin is 100% a child of Rock and Roll. This sound and this feel is why I got into music. What happened in that rehearsal hall was so intense, and so exciting, that I just hope it happens tonight on the show," exclaims Jimmy Iovine.
Yes, Jimmy, it happened on the show! There was no need to worry. James' performance was so intense, so amazing. He began the song acapella, and proved to everyone that he can sing...anything! James just gained a whole army of new fans who may have thought of him before as "That Metal guy." "Yes Mom, that really is the 'screaming Judas Priest Guy' (her words, she's 72) singing wonderfully acapella!" His voice is incredible...huge range, perfect pitch, and he can hold a note seemingly forever. Plus, James' arrangement made the song current and a little bit Rock and Roll. The audience absolutely loved it, and even all three judges were applauding and making whooping noises.
Rocker Steven Tyler raved, "That was good. I really liked the beginning of that. You had me sold on it right at the beginning. It was so beautiful. Then you broke into the Rock part, and I didn't like it at first, and it grew on me. That's the first song I ever made out to a girl with. It was in a bowling alley, and I didn't strike out." Jlo praised, "I thought from the beginning it was magical. You are going to be the star of the night. It was amazing for me. Since we started the Top 13, James has had a strong week every single week. He has not blown one week. Consistency is going to win it."
Randy Jackson also raved, "All night, I've been saying, "Who is in this to win it? Who's really trying to do it, bringing it hard?" What I loved tonight, is you turned the other cheek. Because tonight, you weren’t just a great rock singer. Tonight, you proved you were a great singer. And that's the most important thing. That was one of the best performances of the last couple off months. That was incredible. THIS GUY MIGHT JUST WIN THE WHOLE THING!! Crazy, crazy, crazy. RIGHT HERE...JAMES IS IN THE HOUSE!!"
Host Ryan Seacrest, who almost never gets in on the judging, exclaimed, "You know you have to be good to make it to Hollywood. You've got to be great to make it week after week. And now, it's about becoming a Super Star. And that is what you're doing, Man. Congratulations. Randy makes a big call tonight. Calling James possibly the winner!" I think we now know who the producers want to win. Ryan hasn't been this obvious about the PTB's preferences since his long drawn out "RUUUUUUUUUUBBBBBBEEEEEEENNNNNNN STUUUUUUUDDDDDDAAAARRRRRDDDDDD"s.

Live at American Idol: Why Did James Durbin Storm Offstage After the Top 7 Results Show?
While the eliminee seemed to accept his loss, James clearly wasn't happy with the results.
So what exactly happened?
Every Idol fan knew it was only a matter of time before Stefano Langone's spotlight would go out. After repeatedly landing in the bottom three, it was obvious he wasn't a fan favorite. But his number was up, even though Jennifer Lopez may love him — and from our seat behind the judges table, it was obvious James does too.
After Haley Reinhart was sent to safety and the show cut to commercial, Jacob Lusk didn't seem to know what to do. If he wasn't fidgeting in his chair or pacing around the Idol stage ignoring the screaming fans, he looked dazed, confused and totally lost that he was this close to losing his shot at Idol glory. Stefano, on the other hand, was totally relaxed. It seemed like he knew what was coming: He took time to hug Idol's stage manager and other production people and even wandered over to the couches where he and James embraced in one big, fat, bro hug. It was really cute and actually made us a little sad.
As the results were read, James sat on the couch hunched over, his head in his hands. He couldn't even look up when Ryan Seacrest told Stefano his time on Idol was over. We even spotted James wiping away tears! He may be an edgy rocker on the outside, but he's truly an emotional guy and was honestly upset to see Stefano go. So much so that after the show ended, instead of lingering onstage with the other contestants, James took off without so much as a glance to anyone, head hung down, obviously disappointed with America's decision.
Speaking of disappointment, want to know a secret? The Katy Perry "E.T." wannabe Lady Gaga performance with a surprise cameo of Kanye West wasn't live. Because of the fancy lasers, lobster-skeleton-looking throne she was pushed around on and the choreography, it had to be taped after last week's performance show. We were there, and it took more than 40 minutes to set up, then Katy performed it three times. So when Ryan Seacrest announced Katy, the entire Idol audience stood up to get a good look — only to be utterly confused and, dare we say, pissed that they weren't seeing Mrs. Brand in all her Top 40 pop glory.
